Crocker Art Museum

We had the opportunity back in January to visit the Crocker Art Museum in downtown Sacramento for a friend of mine's birthday. Jessie works at the Crocker and decided that for her birthday she wanted to share her favorite exhibit with her friends and family. Alana had gone on a field trip with her class there earlier in the school year and had gotten a pass to bring herself and 4 other people for free, so since Brayden and I had never been, we took advantage and went to check it out.

Tirzah brought Molly's kids along and we snapped a bunch of pictures of everyone while we waited for the rest of the group to show up.

Brayden, Alana, Claire, Rachel and Jayleigh. Excited to see what's inside. Alana and Claire...Alana is only 28 days older than Claire and look how much taller she is! Sheesh... Rachel and Brayden. We tease that they love each other. :) While we waited the kids just ran around out front and chased each other. At one point, I turned around and saw this and couldn't resist a picture cutie booties! :)

Of course we weren't able to take pictures of any of the exhibits, but it was fun. Jessie's favorite exhibit was all robots. Some were made out of metal, others clay. It was cool. One of them breathed and another was a skeleton hooked up to some kind of medical equipment, but had a sensor in it so when you walked by it jumped. Scared the kids, but made us all giggle.

They also had a separate room for kids where they could build their own robots. They had a magnetic wall with magazine cut outs of random stuff that the kids could place together and make something. Then there was a white board hanging on the side where they could name it and write what it did too. Alana named hers game boy. Brayden named his video game bunny. The kids had fun doing this, but I realized that maybe they both play a little too much wii...

They had a little station where you could dress as a "mad scientist" complete with lab coats and safety goggles. Alana was all over it! Brayden on the other hand didn't want to wear the goggles, but was a good sport and took a picture for me. From there they collected supplied to make their own robots.

The finished products! (see the cape?!) (Alana gave her's hair on the top) :) The museum even had these little cards that had an "Unofficial Official Patent" the kids could get. We just filled them out with their names and what they wanted to name their robots and put them in a little box and the Crocker "authenticated" them and mailed them to us. It was adorable. The kids were so excited.

Shortly after the kids were done building their robots it was time for the museum to close, so we left their robots there (because other people would want to see them, right!?), made sure we had pictures of the entire process, cleaned up and headed outside for cupcakes. But of course, I had to make sure someone got a picture of me with the kids to prove I was there! :) And then one with the birthday girl! Thanks Jess for inviting us out! We loved it and can't wait to go back!
