Uncle Elder Benny's Homecoming

March 17, 2011 was a very happy day for our family! We don't usually get much into St. Patrick's Day other than wearing a green shirt or something (even though it is now against the rules at school for the kids to pinch anyone if they aren't wearing green...I get it, but come on! Let kids be kids sometimes, you know!?)

Anyway, so there were no plans to have green eggs, green pancakes, to go on a leprechaun hunt or even to search for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow (though that would be WONDERFUL in today's economy!). We were welcoming home my "brother" Benjamin from serving his 2 year mission for the church in Billings, Montana. Here are the kids with the signs I made for them to hold up for him to see. (I had forgotten until the last minute, otherwise the kids would have made them themselves...and they were so surprised and happy when I picked them up from school and had them waiting for them!)

He had such a successful mission and was greeted at the airport by his parents, 7 of his 9 siblings, two sister in laws, a "sister" (me :)), an "aunt" and 7 of his nieces and nephews. He was overcome with emotion. It was so sweet to see. This is a picture of him hugging all of the nieces and nephews at the same time (minus the two babies that were there that would have been smushed to death)I love how it looks like there are only 3 kids hugging him, but if you look close you can see Brayden right up against his chest underneath two of the girls and Rory's little arm holding tight to the card she made for him around the back of Rachel (grey sleeve). He kept saying, you guys grew so much! You look so different!

Benny seemed unsure at times as to what to do when the kids kept hugging him. Here is one of those moments. Brayden ran up and threw his arms around Benny and he just patted the top of his head...it made me giggle.
I am sure by now things are a little less weird for him what with belonging to such a large family and he is adjusting back to "civilian life". My kids missed him SO much! We know he was serving the Lord and that is where he needed to be, but we are so glad he is home!

(this last picture is of my kids in front of the baggage claim display. They were in awe at the height of all of the suitcases that went all the way to the ceiling so I had to get a picture!)
